There is just something about photographing High School Seniors!  I’m telling you, they are just so much fun!  When I first moved to Louisville Kentucky I was told by “outsiders” that Kentucky had some of the most beautiful girls in the world.  The thing is, they, whoever they are, were right because I’ve had the chance to meet some of them!

For this session, and I’m going to preface this by warning you this is only a sneak peek of her session, we headed south of Louisville to Bardstown.  It was a stormy dramatic day which was just perfect for the kind of images she was looking for.   We ‘hit the streets’ of Bardstown and found some amazing spots!  This girl rocked every single one.  Honestly, she was a natural, and what a beauty, just like her Mom.  🙂

Regardless of the time of year, I love to get some color into my images and nothing trumps fall for color!  Everything was alive and vibrant in this cute little town.

We raced around from spot to spot looking for interesting architecture and foliage, we only jumped one fence for “that shot” we just couldn’t pass up!

Before the light disappeared we packed up and raced over to Bernheim Arboretum for some stellar shots.  When she told me she was super excited about the stormy weather I had a specific shot in mind and I just couldn’t wait to set her up for it!  We started out with some simple images to take advantage of both the beauty of the season as well as her natural smile and then found a field.

This is the field shot!  “the shot” that I pictured.  The dark clouds in the background, her hair blowing in the wind (no wind machine needed LOL) and her stunning dress blowing around her legs.  She was fierce to say the least.

As if she walked straight out of the next big TV series, she owned this shot.  So yes, I absolutely believe what they say, Kentucky girls are beautiful, especially over here in Louisville.  Stunning, smart and ambitious, I can only imagine what she’ll accomplish after high school!

It’s time again for a blog circle post. This month the theme is “mess” which couldn’t be more perfect for our house right now. When I first started thinking about this photography theme, I had many ideas, ultimately though, I decided to let real life reveal the mess for me to photograph. You see, it’s pretty cold here right now. In fact, it’s so cold and snowy that the kids have been off of school for three days with a weekend smack in the middle. We’re pretty cooped up right now and going a little stir crazy! So when I tried to think of something fun to photograph for mess, I simply picked up my camera this afternoon. When you’ve played with every Christmas toy and read every story, it’s time for a new game. Perhaps a game like, throw every blanket you can find into a big pile in the middle of the floor. Yup. Sure enough, there was the mess. Thanks guys! 🙂

Children playing in a colorful mess of blankets

They were so excited to invent their new game.  I stopped counting blankets when I got to 10.  With the cold wind wiping around the windows, and a fire crackling inside, I think this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Two kids play and snuggle in a tangle of blanketsSweet little girl with crazy messy hair in pjsBefore putting the camera down and letting them get back to their silly games I managed to grab one quick crazy hair shot!  Curly hair gets wild when you roll around in blankets and it cracks me up every time. It perfectly reflects her personality, in fact this whole game represents both of their personalities.  Silly, wild, caring and fun, just the right combination.  We’ll all be happier when the sun melts away the cold and we can return to our outdoor fun, but for now, we’re making due with our messy afternoons!

If you’d like to keep clicking through to see the other “mess” interpretations, the next up is Jennifer from Coco et Ellie.  She is one fantastic lady, trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

  • Your house looks way too fun! My Josie said she wants to go play there when she looked at your pictures. Love that silly, wild, caring and fun lifestyle.

There’s something about a cold December leading up to Christmas that really warms my heart.  I know it sounds funny, or maybe not, maybe you feel the same way!  When I think of Christmas time I think of cold weather, beautiful lights and that warm childlike anticipation that builds as the month unfolds.   This month our blog circle theme was Warmth.  So I choose to take one picture.  A self portrait intended to capture that feeling.  The quiet, peaceful warmth that surrounds our Christmas tree every evening.  The kids are asleep, the chores are done (well, ok, maybe not but you get where I’m going with this) and everything seems so peaceful.  These quiet moments when I can tuck in my sleeping babies and relax with my husband, they are few and far between.

So here is my ‘warmth’ not perfect by any means, just a simple quiet at the end of the day, like the eye of a storm.  With everyone safe and sound and a beautiful sparkling tree, just as I remember it as a child shining above me.

I should add that it’s incredibly difficult to take a self portrait like this in the dark!  I should be showing you the outtakes.  😉  I am very lucky to have such a wonderfully patient husband.  We’ll add that to the warmth tally I think.   Next up in our circle is Jennifer of Coco Et Elle.

this is such a lovely peaceful photo!

I would like to introduce this perfect little love to you today!  If you follow my newborn photography work, you’ve seen her before in a sneak peek but I’ve got much more for you today!   I had the pleasure of spending the morning with her and she was just the sweetest little thing.  Most of these sweet little newborns have a hard time staying awake in my arms, but she was beyond amazing!  She slept like a champ for me and then for her Mom at home too.  I got the chance to meet both her mother and her grandmother at her session.  What a lucky little lady she is to be surrounded by that much love!  From newborn to baby to toddler to child it happens so fast and makes it that much easier to hold them a little longer when they are so tiny!  It’s amazing how fast they change, a newborn baby like little Ava here, only a few days old, will be completely different in just a few weeks but her mother will never forget these moments, from the wrinkle of her brow to the curl of her toes, they are etched forever in her mother’s heart.
